Today, 11/09/25, Rapido Trains has launched an OO gauge model of the LNER D40 class steam locomotive. The Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS) is delighted to announce that it has commissioned Rapido to produce a version of Gordon Highlander in the condition that it appears in the Museum of Scottish Railways today. There will only be 150 models produced, with DCC ready and DCC sound versions available.
The SRPS / MoSR version will differ from Rapido’s main range (1960s railtour) version of Gordon Highlander in the following ways:
- The Museum version will have black cab roof, the railtour version has grey

The Museum version has worksplates on smokebox, absent on the railtour version
- The Museum version has fully-black bogie while the railtour version has lined equalising beam

The Museum version has red tender axles compared to black of the railtour version
- Tender rear brake standards are painted black in museum, black and red over bufferbeam on railtour.
We expect to include SRPS headboards and the locomotive will be delivered in a special box unique to SRPS.
The models are priced at £344.95 (DCC Sound). A deposit of £45 is payable at point of pre-order with balance due prior to delivery of the models at the same time as the main Rapido Range.
